Self Assessment Tax Returns — Prepared and Filed for You
Whether you are self-employed, a company director, landlord, or higher-rate taxpayer, your annual Self Assessment tax return must be filed with HMRC by 31 January and all tax paid on time to avoid penalties and interest charges.
At Kent Tax Specialists, we prepare your return with precision, drawing on detailed knowledge of HMRC Self Assessment guidance and current UK tax legislation. We identify every allowable expense, applicable relief, and legitimate deduction, from trading income to pension contributions, Gift Aid payments, and foreign income.
We handle complex returns involving multiple income sources, loss relief, carry-back claims, and payment on account adjustments. Our clients across Kent trust us to eliminate errors that invite HMRC scrutiny, file well ahead of the January deadline, and ensure they never overpay tax. Our thorough approach saves time, reduces stress, and delivers complete confidence in your tax position.

Your Common Self Assessment Questions Answered
For online returns, the deadline is 31 January. Paper returns must be filed by 31 October. Tax owed is also due by 31 January. Payments on account (if applicable) are due 31 January and 31 July. Missing these deadlines triggers automatic penalties starting at £100.
You can claim any expense wholly and exclusively for business purposes: office costs, business travel (not commuting), phone and broadband (business proportion), marketing, professional subscriptions, accounting fees, insurance, stock and materials, and equipment (subject to capital allowances). You cannot claim clothing (unless a uniform), client entertainment, or personal expenses.
An automatic £100 penalty applies immediately. After 3 months, £10 daily penalties begin (up to £900). After 6 months, an additional 5% of tax due (or £300 minimum). After 12 months, a further 5% penalty. Interest accrues on unpaid tax. We help file late returns and, where possible, submit a reasonable excuse appeal to mitigate penalties.
You need to file if you are self-employed with trading income above £1,000; a company director; earning over £100,000; a landlord receiving rental income; someone with untaxed income (investments, foreign income, capital gains); or claiming certain reliefs. If unsure whether you need to file, contact us — failing to register triggers penalties.
Yes. You can amend an online return within 12 months of the filing deadline (31 January two years after the tax year end). After that, you must write to HMRC requesting a correction. We advise clients to review returns carefully before submission but can handle amendments if an error is found later.
