Tax Services Across Kent
Kent Tax Specialists is a personal tax practice serving individuals and small businesses across Kent and Medway. Our advisers are qualified with the ACCA and the ATT and registered as agents with HMRC, and everything we do is tax: Self Assessment returns, CIS refunds, landlord and capital gains work, VAT, Making Tax Digital and HMRC investigations. Unlike a general practice where tax competes with bookkeeping and payroll for attention, we are tax advisers first and last, backed by more than 25 years’ experience. Fees are fixed and agreed before any work starts, from 31 towns’ worth of local knowledge and one simple promise: you deal with a qualified adviser who knows your name, not a call centre.

Qualified, personal, accountable
Who handles your tax
Your tax affairs are handled personally by our senior tax adviser: qualified with the ACCA and the ATT, a registered HMRC agent, and a personal tax specialist rather than a generalist with tax on the side. That expertise was built over more than 25 years, including time at some of the UK’s largest tax practices and at specialist tax firms, and it is now applied personally to clients across Kent and Medway. You deal with the same qualified adviser from the first conversation to the final filing. Nothing is passed to a junior team, an outsourced processor or a call centre, and every return is prepared and checked by the adviser whose qualifications you can see above.

Choosing the right help
Do you need a tax adviser or an accountant?
Most people searching for an accountant in Kent actually need something more specific. The two roles overlap, but they are not the same job, and knowing the difference can save you both money and frustration.
What an accountant does. A general accountancy practice looks after the whole financial picture of a business: bookkeeping, annual accounts, payroll, company filings and management figures. Tax is part of the service, but it is one strand among many, and in most general practices the majority of the year is spent on accounts preparation rather than tax work. If you run a limited company that needs statutory accounts, a payroll run and a company tax return, an accountant is exactly what you need.

Your Common Personal Tax Questions Answered
When you sell a residential property that is not your main home, you must report the gain and pay any CGT within 60 days of completion. This applies even if you file a Self Assessment return. Missing the deadline triggers automatic penalties. We handle the 60-day return as part of our landlord service.
Each missed quarterly submission earns 1 penalty point. At 4 points, a £200 fixed penalty applies, and £200 for each subsequent missed submission. Points expire after a defined period if you comply. Late payment penalties are separate: 2% after 15 days, 4% after 30 days, then 4%/year for longer defaults.
Penalties range from 0–100% of unpaid tax depending on behaviour: careless errors 0–30%, deliberate errors 20–70%, deliberate and concealed 30–100%. Cooperating fully, making an unprompted disclosure, and providing complete information all significantly reduce the final penalty. We negotiate penalty classifications as standard.
You need HMRC-recognised software that submits quarterly updates digitally. Popular options include QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent, and Sage. Spreadsheet users can use bridging software. We help clients choose and set up the right software and provide ongoing support.
Yes. Company cars, private medical cover, interest-free loans and similar benefits are reported on a P11D and taxed as income, usually through an adjusted tax code. Employers report these incorrectly more often than people expect. We check your P11D against what you actually received and challenge figures that are overstated.

We take pride in providing trusted personal tax support across Kent, with client feedback reflecting our commitment to clear advice, professional service, and dependable support from start to finish.
I’m a higher rate taxpayer with investments and pension contributions and wanted to make sure my tax position was correct. Everything was reviewed thoroughly and relief I was entitled to but hadn’t claimed was identified. Very experienced and clearly know their subject inside out.
I had never bothered claiming my CIS refund because I did not think it was worth the hassle. Turns out I was owed over two thousand pounds. The whole thing was done in a few weeks. Wish I had done it years ago.
After struggling with my landlord tax returns for a couple of years I finally handed them over. The rules are known inside out, Section 24, allowable expenses, replacement furniture relief. Everything handled quickly and I had complete peace of mind.
